About

Since I started improvising with my dad at age five, I’ve always imagined that the flute could become comparable to the other jazz instruments I heard on his big band and combo recordings. Taking the flute out of it’s stereotypical role has always been my main objective.

  1. Agreed! And also agreed that you have taken the flute out of it’s stereotypical role. Looking forward to hearing you play sometime soon!

Hi Holly, I was introduced to your music by way of Jane Monheit’s album, “Never Never Land.” What a treat it was to hear you accompany Jane and the band.

    Hope you’re having a great 2010!

    Best,

As I drifted off to napland yesterday, I heard WBGO play your version of “Cute”. So much for sleeping! Your balance, tone, inventiveness, and dynamism were, as Aristotle said, “too exciting”. (Hey, Ari — that’s a good thing!) So now I have to ask, when will you be performing in the East?

Hello Holly, I’m a jazz violist, yes its a lonely world….. just kidding, I love the viola deep viola sound, and i really love your work. I constantly listen to you and Bill Cunliffe on CD’s.
I just saw that you were at Kitano in Sept., I go to jams there sometimes, wished I’d known you were in town.
I started with keyboard as a kid and switched to fiddle 10 years ago. its such a kick to go around NY and jam with people who you never saw before who are accomplished players. Especially the kids who are serious and come out.

Thanks Holly for the great recordings !

Steve Crouse ( PS: I play lefty, it drove the classical teachers nuts)
